The world is full of distractions, uncontrollable influences and things that throw us off balance by demanding our attention. Daan’s work attempts to restore the natural balance, to decelerate life, and to create tactile moments on canvas and paper. All of his paintings and drawings are inspired by modern culture and the struggle to disconnect.
Daan Olieroock is a trained Dutch artist, coming from the field of design and media-technology. Starting out studying Philosophy, he soon turned to study design at the University of the Arts in Utrecht and Media Technology at the University of Leiden.
Having worked as a designer, art-director and marketing executive for close to twenty years, and becoming ever more dissatisfied with the practice of data mining, marketing manipulation and online deception tactics. It became clear that working as self-taught independent artist would allow Daan to employ his talents in more creative and meaningful ways.
People call him a storyteller. And as with every story, they really come to life when they connect with your own unique experiences. Daan’s abstract paintings and drawings aim to recall the beauty and elusiveness of being human. With all it’s limitations and emotions. Emotions that will give fruit to conversation, that let you reflect and that make you think.
